Rune Hunter (Rune Series #3) by Amelia Wilson | ARC | A Book Review

Rune Hunter (Runes #3) by Amelia Wilson | ARC | A Book Review

This is the third book in the Runes series. I have read the two previous books and have enjoyed the story. I just can't let it pass to not read the next installment in the series.

Rune Hunter continues the adventures of Nika Graves and Erik Thorvald. This time, more enemies are coming forward bent on destroying both of them. Betrayal seems to be the theme song of these two love birds. A song that keeps playing on a loop.

New creatures and characters were introduced in this book. A dark and savage history of Erik also came to light. People from Erik's past are getting out of the shadows to seek revenge on Erik. A vendetta that is years in the making. Nika will also discover new powers and strength that she didn't know she had. A new ability will come in very handy in aiding in their quest to stop the on set of a war that will destroy the humans and all the Draugr.

I think this book is just so-so. There were some good scenes and good revelations but all in all, it was not as absorbing as the first two books. I think the part where Erik and Nika met with the First Draugr was too easy. I expected the scene to be chaotic and the rest of the Draugr would put up a very hard fight. I think it was a bit anti-climatic for the scene to just turn out so peachy.

I give the book 3/5 stars. Yes, I appreciate that it still ended well for our two heroes and the war was quelled before it hurt a lot of people. But still, I wished that this book had packed more ammunition and bang. I wished I was stunned but was not. Maybe, in the next book, if there is one since it hinted that it was not all over yet. I hope the next book will be so surprising and unexpected that I will fall off my seat.

Such a slippery slope. You fall and never realize it until you're at the bottom of the hill.

Rune Master (Rune Series #2) by Amelia Wilson | ARC | A Book Review

Rune Master (Rune Series #2) by Amelia Wilson | ARC | A Book Review

Merry Christmas everyone! How was your Christmas? We had a simple celebration at home. We had baked pork spare ribs, spaghetti, macaroni salad , fried chicken with gravy, cassava cake, chocolate cake and sparkling wine. This year my parents spent Christmas at my brother's house. We went to visit on the 25th to exchange gifts. It was a quiet and low-key celebration compared to the previous Christmases. Quiet because there were very minimal fireworks and firecrackers. Probably, because our president - Mr. Duterte, has publicly expressed his dislike for firecrackers and planned to ban it. We could use less noise and fright caused by those things, not to mention less injuries. Our neighbors compensated by renting a videoke machine and the singing started as early as 4 PM. A little quiet but not too quiet. So, that was it for me. Hope you had a good Christmas with family and friends.

The book I am reviewing today is Rune Master. This is the second book in the Rune Series. Amelia Wilson, the author, generously sent me again an ARC and I gladly reviewed it since I enjoyed the first book. Not that I would refuse if an author would ask me to review her book.

Rune Master picked up right where Rune Sword left off. I have included a link for the review of Rune Sword below. You may check it. This is a paranormal Viking romance story, specifically-vampires.

I liked this story because of the rare combination of vampire and Viking mythology. I have not come across this kind of story before so this really interested me. It gave a fresh spin on the whole vampire story. As I mentioned in my review of the first book, I thought that Twilight has ruined all vampire stories for me but thankfully, there are enough people with great imagination in the world to come up with various fascinating and awesome stories involving vampires that still pique my interest. This series is one of them.

The story explored more how the vampire and Viking story came together. It gave me more insight into the Norse mythology and the other Gods and deities. It is a sort-of a good introduction for me to some characters and aspects of the Viking culture. I learned new things here which is what every reader wants every time we read a new story.

This seemed like an HEA (happy ever after) story and it may seem that the series have ended but I would like to think and hope that there is still a next story. Nika Graves and Erik Thorvald did not have enough adventures and dangerous encounters with the evil vampires, tricksters, and rogue Norse Gods, yet. I think they still have a lot more experiences to go through together and their relationship too has to be tested more. I do admit, in this story, their relationship has gone through enough of their trust issues.

I give the book 4/5 rune stones. In this story, Nika's character has grown and I love how it was done and how the story evolved. Since I am not so familiar with the Norse mythology, I did not have any expectations set for this book except for it to surprise me. I did not have any pre-conceived idea of how I wanted the story to go but it did surprise me and I liked how the story unraveled. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next chapters of Nika and Erik's live and love stories.

If I have to measure my worth by the value of those around me, I'm not much of a man, am I?

Rune Sword (Rune Series #1) by Amelia Wilson | ARC | A Book Review

Rune Sword (Rune Series #1) by Amelia Wilson ARC Book Review

In as much as I have read about 22 books last November, still, there were a few that I was not able to read in time and squeeze in. This book was one of them. I got this ARC and had not read it until the last day of November. Sorry, Amelia Wilson but better late than never, right?

Rune Sword. This book made me sorry why I did not read it in time for the release day. This is a book about Norse mythology and I am such a sucker for mythology. Norse mythology and vampires, what more could I ask for? The background story and how vampires were inserted into the story was very smooth. I am not so familiar with the Norse god and goddesses. The only ones I know are from the Thor movie franchise and a few from Rick Riordan's Sword of Summer. Very limited, which I guess why this book impressed me. But honestly, I am not easy to impress. I have read a lot of books and have become critical of the stories that interest me or not. I have read a few books that I did not finish because they bored me or the writing was not as seamless. This book, however, hooked me right on the first lines of the first chapter which made me more guilty why I hadn't read this sooner. I am looking to reading the next installment. I hope there is one.

I think the combination of vampire and Norse mythology really worked in this book. I thought it was a very weird and unusual combination but I ended up shaking my head and unbelievably applauding the author for coming up with this superb twist. I am so freaking impressed! I could not say it enough. It was a very dangerous stunt to pull but it grandly worked. I just wish that it included pronunciations for the names and Swede terms used. I thought Twilight ruined all the vampire books for me but this book just changed that. I really enjoyed this. Very well-put together. I am genuinely happy that I decided to get my hands on this book. This is again one of those books that found me. Thank you so much, Amelia Wilson, for this great work. Please say there is a sequel.

I give the book 4/5 rocks with rune inscriptions. Now, I am giving myself an assignment, to get familiar with Norse mythology as I have with Greek and Roman. This book reminded me of my interest in mythology and I have not read any for the past few months. I think I will have to look into my TBR again and make sure that I have at least one book for each genre and topic that interests me.

To Catch A Killer: Ghost Romance by Amelia Wilson | A Book Review

To Catch A Killer: Ghost Romance by Amelia Wilson Book Review

I signed up for an ARC for one of Amelia Wilson's books. She sent me this book while waiting for the ARC to come out. Thank you again, Amelia Wilson.

The e-book copy I was sent was only for seven chapters. I thought this must have been a condensed version, but when I checked Goodreads, the whole book was only for 54 pages. This was a short story. The following review is just as short also.

This book was about a lady detective who lost her partner while they were on duty. Her partner's ghost appeared to her to help find his killer.

I liked the plot. A detective's ghost helping out his partner to catch his killer is very promising. I think this would make a good full novel. The writer could probably explore more on the ghost part. I don't think I have read of similar stories.

I gave this book three stars. I wished it were longer. I thought there was a lot of potential for the story. I felt there were things that got left hanging. Maybe, there is a next book. Hopefully, it would be a full-length novel this time.
I have read a few short stories lately, and I thought the stories were interesting enough. I wished they were longer. I think you understand how it felt like when you wanted a story to tell you more.

I will be reading another book by Amelia Wilson -Rune Sword: Vampire Romance. I got an ARC. It was released last week. I will post my review as soon as I finished it.
