Queen of Chaos
Kat Ross
(The Fourth Element #3)

Publication date: January 18th 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Persepolae has fallen.
Karnopolis has burned.
As the dark forces of the Undead sweep across what remains of the empire, Nazafareen must obey the summons of a demon queen to save Darius’s father, Victor. Burdened with a power she doesn’t understand and can barely control, Nazafareen embarks on a perilous journey through the shadowlands to the House-Behind-the-Veil. But what awaits her there is worse than she ever imagined…
A thousand leagues away, Tijah
leads a group of children on a desperate mission to rescue the prisoners at Gorgon-e Gaz, the stronghold where the oldest daēvas are kept. To get there, they must cross the Great Salt Plain, a parched ruin occupied by the armies of the night. A chance encounter adds a ghost from the past to their number. But will they arrive in time to avert a massacre?

And in the House-Behind-the-Veil, Balthazar and the Prophet Zarathustra discover that they have more in common than meets the eye. But is it enough to redeem the necromancer’s bloodstained soul and thwart his mistress’s plans?

As a final showdown looms with Queen Neblis, the truth of the daēvas’ origins is revealed and three worlds collide in this thrilling conclusion to the Fourth Element series.

My One Cent

This is the third installment in the series but is not yet the last. Yes, our heroes' journey does not end here. The Fourth Element series was intended to be a trilogy but as the stories and characters take form, the author realized that she has more in store for our characters. So, if you are faithfully following this journey, fear not, this is not the last of Nazafareen, Darius, and Tijah, yet. And I found myself smiling because of that news. Thank you, Kat Ross.

Yes, before I got to the end of the book, I thought this was the last of our friends' adventures. That finally, they will be able to vanquish the Evil Queen Neblis and her dark minions. But, that's not all. It seemed that our heroes are going to be facing another obstacle and this time it's going to be more impossible than the last they have been through. But relax, that is yet for another book.

This was an epic final battle between good and evil. Loyalties were tested and broken here. Eyes and consciousness are now wide awake. Origins were traced and declared. Ties and unexpected alliances were born. Worlds collided. In the end, the good still trumped evil because at the heart of even the most cunning and evil man is a goodness that was embedded so deep that it remained uncorrupted by the dark taint. And that tiniest bit of goodness has lead to the queen's downfall. And love, it still proved to be the strongest force of all. Finally, those that have been lost have been found and returned to their homes.

I give this book 5/5 full moons. This was really an epic journey. I am glad that Darius and Nazafareen's love have survived all of the chaos and deceit. And Tijah, she has found another purpose and another person who will help her get through the rest of the journey and accompany her in the next adventures. As she has said, life has a way of interfering with our best plans. In spite of those that have perished in the battles, this is still a victory that is to be celebrated. Goodness will always triumph over evil. So, if you are one of those who had escaped from the Dominion, be vary, your days are numbered. Right now, you are being hunted.

Thank you so much Xpressobooktours for the ARC. Thank you, Kat Ross, for an amazing ride. This has been a very spectacular journey that I am sure I would have missed a quarter of my life having not met the characters in this series. I am looking forward to the next chapter of their lives. I can't wait to know how Darius and Nazafareen will find their way out of their current situation. Ah, how to break the unbreakable and to make the impossible happen?

What is life--or death-- without a little mystery? I will discover the answer to that question when I get there.

Author Bio:

Kat Ross worked as a journalist at the United Nations for ten years before happily falling back into what she likes best: making stuff up. She lives in Westchester with her kid and a few sleepy cats. Kat is also the author of the dystopian thriller Some Fine Day (Skyscape, 2014), about a world where the sea levels have risen sixty meters. She loves magic, monsters and doomsday scenarios. Preferably with mutants.

Blood of the Prophet (The Fourth Element #2) by Kat Ross | A Book Review

Blood of the Prophet (The Fourth Element #2) by Kat Ross | A Book Review

The second book of The Fourth Element Series. I also got my copy from Xpressobooktours. Thank you again.

This is a continuation of Nazafareen, Darius, Tijah, and Myrri's journey. After they reached Macydonia, the land of Alexander. They found out that the Prophet Zarathustra is actually alive and is rotting in the dungeons in Karnopolis. This time, they are tasked to rescue the prophet from his cells and bring them to Alexander. Will the four succeed in their quest?

Ah, the epic adventure of Nazafareen continues. If you think the first book was intense, well, this is even better. More cunning and evil characters are unmasked in this story. That means more adversaries for our heroes to pursue and vanquished. Yes, the odds are all getting higher and larger. And finally, Darius and Nazafareen have become closer than ever. Nazafareen also discovers that she has more in her than she realized.

I guess when there is war, there are always casualties. Yes, just like the first book. There are characters that cease to exist in this story. Though some of them deserved their death. Some of them will leave your heart broken for their unexpected passing. Blood and tears were shed in this journey and some of our heroes will never ever be the same because of the tragedy.

If there were some who left, there are also new characters that will take their place. New personalities that will join the journey. Some of these new characters are so adorable but are they to be trusted? Will these new people help our cause?

I gave the book 5/5 leather neck collars. This story will hold you until the very end. There is no releasing the tension. You will weep tears of desperation and of fury and rage. This book will cause a lot of emotions that will leave you gasping for air. Blood will be spilled and people will weep.

I knew all too well that it did no good to bolt the door against one's grief. It would simply lurk on the threshold and if you didn't come out, it would kick the door down and things would go much harder for you.

The Midnight Sea (The Fourth Element #1)

The Queen of Chaos (The Fourth Element #3)

The Midnight Sea (The Fourth Element #1) by Kat Ross | A Book Review

The Midnight Sea (The Fourth Element #1) by Kat Ross | A Book Review

I also signed up for the blog tour of Queen of Chaos hosted by Xpressobooktours. I have not read any of the books of The Fourth Element series. Thankfully, Xpressobooktours is so generous to include the first two books in the series. Thank you again. I guess, that is one of the perks of signing up for blog tours.

The Midnight Sea is the first book in the series. This is the story of  a girl of the Four-Legs Clan, a nomad, named Nazafareen. She lost her younger sister Asraf to a wight. Yes, like the one in Game of Thrones. And because of that traumatic experience, she vowed to avenge her sister's untimely death. When the opportunity arose, she joined the King's Water Dogs. They are warriors who destroy the Undead --the wights, revenants, etc. But in order for a water dog to vanquished the undead, s/he has to be bonded to a daeva. A being that can touch elemental magic like water, earth, air, but not fire.

This story is based on the religion Zoroastrianism and some events in Persian and Greek history. It's both a combination of history and fantasy with a lot of paranormal and supernatural. Most of the scenes are set behind the Persian landscape. Names are so exotic and unique. And most of all, a story that will have you bound from the first pages until the last. It has a hypnotic quality that will render you immovable and lost to a strange world of wonder and awe.

Like most of the stories, a very unlikely hero will rise from some unknown part of the kingdom that will be the key to saving the whole of civilization. This is exactly what Nazafareen is. But she has no idea yet. The only thing she knows is the revenge for her sister. That is her only motivation until she met friends and unexpected allies that will be bonded to her for life and even after death.

I give the book 5/5 gold cuffs. I did not mind being attached and bonded to the Nazafareen in this story. It was a very glorious and amazing adventure though I admit it was also terrifying. Yes, this has a touch of the bitter cold in the North in Game of Thrones at the same time it will take you to the picturesque landscapes in the old world like Persia and Macydonia. And if you are a fan of Aang, The Avatar, the last air-bender or Korra, then this too has a touch of the magic that both Korra and Aang were masters of.

For it's not the loss that undoes us in the end. It's the regret, for words unspoken, small kindnesses withheld.
